That’s what I get to be for salsa now. 🙂 Today was my first day learning the lead for Salsa Level 1.
It was pretty nerve-wracking at the beginning because I had to learn the opposite of everything I’ve been learning so far: e.g. walk forward first instead of backward, hold the opposite hand with the opposite grip, etc. I helped correct a lot of the Level 1 ladies’ basic steps and frames, and learned how to cross body lead them. 🙂
I was supposed to switch back to being a lady for Salsa Level 2, but one of the other ladies thought I was still learning the lead and wanted to be my partner, so I just went with it and took the class as a guy. There were practically 2x as many girls as guys.
It did not start off well. I accidentally hit the first woman I turned in the eye because we hadn’t learned how to turn anyone in Salsa Level 1 yet.
I had some good moments where I actually got through all 5-7 moves we learned more or less correctly, but I think I’m going to go back to being a woman for the remainder of this class.
Still, it’s pretty fun being a man, and I’m going to stick with it for Level 1!
